"Digging Deeper" Daniel's second solo exhibition takes place at the Ratiu Family Foundation Building in Manchester Square, opposite the Wallace Collection in London. A little over a year ago, in November 2007, Alla Bulyanskaya organised his first exhibition, "My Roots" at her prestigious St James's Gallery. Daniel exhibited over a hundred of his paintings. Since then Daniel has worked with even greater enthusiasm and has produced approximately 60 new paintings enjoying expressing himself further as an original artist. He continues to explore his family roots and derives great inspiration from that source. He has created portraits of his beloved grandmother, nee Elisabeth Pilkington, as a debutante. Daniel goes to the theatre with her. He has also painted a portrait of his late grandfather, Ion, "the best President of Romania that Romania never had". In his painting "Family Crest" Daniel was inspired by a historical document dated 1625 in which the Ratiu family received their first title of nobility. Daniel is influenced by studying the great masters - Turner, Klimt, Chagall, Klee and Kandinsky. He captures their different styles in some of his paintings. Daniel is also energized by the places he visits. The luscious tropical forests of Grenada in the West Indies are reflected in his paintings "St George's Harbour", "Boats of My Life", "Donkeys' Ride" and "Carnival of the Animals". Skiing in Switzerland in Zermatt is reflected in his breathtaking painting "Matterhorn". Over this past year Daniel has certainly matured, absorbing an artistic heritage and progressing further in his technique. You can see it in his paintings "Red Diver", "Carnival in the Forest", "Regatta" and "Guy Fawkes Night". Daniel is a lively and talented 12 year old boy. He enjoys playing numerous musical instruments. On the piano he just passed his grade 6 exam with merit. He is also now preparing for grade 6 on violin, saxophone and singing for the Spring term. Love of music and having fun with it you can see in his painting "My Music Room". He also loves Maths, Science, Latin, English, French and like most boys, playing computer games. Rugby is his favourite sport right now. You can find Daniel's paintings at the Alla Bulyanskaya Gallery, 31 Bury Street, St James's, London SW1Y 6AU and at the Ratiu Family Foundation Building, 18 Fitzhardinge Street, Manchester Square, London W1H 6EQ.
